having way too much fun to blog

The first two times my mom came to visit in Austin, I was either really pregnant and sick, or just had a baby.  This time around though, I feel great and am much more mobile, and it's been so fun to get to go play with my mom and the kids too!  We've been a busy bunch, eating out, shopping, going to the pool, hitting the park.  Tonight we'll bbq and then hit the pool again.  It's been so much fun being able to go and play during this visit!

But.....I proofed this shot early this morning and I just adore it.  I keep coming back to it.  This one is all about the crop.  And the chub.  And the drool.

He makes me giggle.

we have a roller

one more from yesterday...this is the first time he held his head up really good, he's getting so big!  Not to mention the fact that he's rolling over now.  While I was photographing him, he would roll over, then turn his head around and look at me like "did you see me mommy!?"....little stinker!

Img_5266crop2web

I love it in black & white too...

Img_5266crop2bwweb

I shot this with the 24-70 mm L lens in Taryn's room.  I just threw my white shaggy fabric down on the ground, put T's green chair behind him and draped the fabric over it - voile! - instant and easy backdrop.

My mom got here this morning, safe and sound.  I'm so happy she's here.

Just one.

Thanks for the comments below (keep them coming please!!).  Ok, so I took the camera out and just shot for awhile.  I "forced" all three kids to participate.   I love a shot that Anne Marie did awhile back of Brick and Calla, only T wasn't into it at all.  Ty and Teagan we happy to help though.

See what I mean about Taryn?  Moody 2 year old and Mr. Funny Face...

More coming later, gotta go fix dinner!

feeling uninspired with my photography

Ya ever just feel blah?  I want to be inspired by something that makes me want to run for my camera.  I guess I need to just go pick up my camera and shoot my way out of this feeling.  That usually helps.

Anyone wonna share an image that inspires them?  Link it here in the comments, I'd love to see.  Or post a link to your favorite image at the moment, yours or someone else's, but be sure to tell me why it moves you.  I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

10 on Tuesday

Let's see if I can make it through 10 before one of the kids requires my attention....

1.  Teagan does the whole eyebrow scowl thing just like Jason and Taryn.  I think he's pretty funny.  Exhibit A:

Img_5097web

2.  Had a playdate with Alli and Ms. Lily this morning.  Taryn has been doing so great potty training that we decided to make it her first official outing without a pullup.  She was totally psyched to discover Lily's new pink princess bathroom!  Yeah, it was a huge hit.  Too bad Ty and Taryn share a bathroom, I doubt we can convince him to go princess LOL!  Oh, and T did great, no accidents and we even went to the grocery store afterwards.

3.  Speaking of pink, the obsession is at an all time high.  A quick glimpse of her getup this morning on the way out of the house.  And no, it wasn't raining ;)

Img_5056web_3

4.  Only 2 days until my mom gets here.  Can't wait.  3 months is way too long between visits.  I can't wait for her to see Teagan and how much he's changed.

5.  I want to return our new couch.  Its too small.  Our other one is too big.  Neither one fits right.  If I can convince Jase to return it, I was thinking I could use it for a few photos first, is that bad?

6. Nursing is difficult.  And so different with each child.  We can do this.  We will.

7.  Man it's crazy how different and how similar they all 3 of my children are.  It still amazes me.  Motherhood is so humbling.  Just when you think you're getting good at it, whamm-o, one of them throws me a curve ball.  I'm not ready for all this tween stuff coming our way with Ty.  We've had an influx of girls knocking on our door asking for Ty over the last few weeks.  I keep running them off, but the keep coming back ;)

8.  In our efforts to go green, my husband has become obsessed with changing out our light bulbs.  Its driving me nuts.  Our dining room looks like an airport runway all lit up.  I often make arm signals to bring in a good landing while serving dinner.  Of course, no one thinks this is funny but me.  I think its hilarious.

9.  I love the way Taryn says "triangle"....tri-gangle.  And "rollercoaster"...roller-coater.  And "pacifier"...pac-E-fier.  And her lyrics to Patty Cake go "patty cake patty cake, big girls man".  Hehehe.  But most of all I love it when she says "you my girl momma".

10.  Ty recently googled the word "fart" at school.  Nice huh?  Thankfully, his teacher has a sense of humor and thought it was moderately funny.  According to my husband, this is something most guys do.  Hmmm...who knew?  He insisted I do it too and more specifically, look for this.  Boys are gross.

You know that book, "We're going on a bear hunt"?

I often get the lines from that book running through my mind when I'm shooting, especially clients, but sometimes at home too.  Can't go over it, can't go under it, gotta go around it.  Reminds me to change my perspective every now and then.

Img_4996web_2

I love the way her little feet peek out from under the boppy and the way she crosses her toes.  She loves holding him these days, he's getting so big too.  It makes me sad and happy all at the same time.  He hasn't been a very happy camper though the last few days, we're having problems nursing and it's making him cranky.  I had supply issues at 3 months with both Ty and Taryn too.  It's so hard, but if I got through it with T in the middle of dealing with being homeless after hurricane katrina and multiple bouts of mastitis, I can do it now.  I've been eating oatmeal like you wouldn't believe and downing Fenugreek.  Fenugreek is a natural herb that helps you increase milk supply.  It has a side effect of making you smell like maple syrup, so at the moment, everyone around me is craving pancakes, waffles and french toast.  I suppose there are worse things to smell like.  Hopefully things get better soon.

May 05, 2008

he has funny fuzz

Every morning when we wake up, we all take a look at Teagan's hair and have a good giggle.  He has funny hair, or as I tell him several times a day, he has "funny fuzz".  We thought he'd given up on funny hair-dos after he sported the George Costanza look for a few weeks.  He was bald on top and kept everything on the sides and in the back.  Then the hair on top grew back in, literally overnight, it was the weirdest thing.  He woke up one morning with hair again and Jason and I both just stared at him, trying to figure out what just happened and if we were totally sleep deprived or seeing it for real.

Anyway, as his hair has grown, it's turned into funny fuzz on top.  And part of it sticks straight up, kinda like a mohawk, right in the middle.  No matter how much we brush it, up it goes.  But the rest lays flat and is very fine.  Silly boy with silly hair, he makes us laugh.  My meager attempt to capture "the fuzz"....it's much funnier in person as it stands up taller than this photo shows.

Img_4839bw2web

ETA:  it's crazy what a mix this little guy is of all of us.  Looking at this photo makes me realize he has his daddy's ears, Taryn's eyes, Ty's eyelashes (they are so long they hit his eyebrows when his eyes are all the way open), Jason's nose at the top and mine at the bottom, and Ty's mouth.  But his hair, yeah, he's doing his own thing there.  A Teagan original ;)

Not quite done yet...but...almost!

Img_4953web_2

It's still missing a few things but it's getting close, so I thought I'd go ahead and share.  In the "big room swap of 2008" as my friend McGee calls it, Taryn got Ty's old room.  Its the biggest of the 3 tiny bedrooms for the kids, and the room with the best light.  I've got to give Ty major kudos for giving his room to his sister.  He didn't balk at it at all and wanted to give it to her, knowing she would use the space more than he did.  Well, he later confessed that a smaller room meant less for him to clean, but hey, he's still a good kid with a big heart for giving his room to his pesky little sis.

This part is still unfinished.  Her pillows are back ordered and won't be in until June, so we're waiting on those.  Above the bed are the hooks I made, this will be her photo wall.  From each hook we'll hang a 12x18 mounted print with ribbon.  I still have to decide what prints to order though.  It will be 3 horizontal from the pink pegs and two verticals (hanging lower) from the green pegs.  And I seriously adore her bed.  At first I was against a daybed, because I wanted her to have a nightstand, but this thing is just so darn functional, it's crazy.  The drawers at the bottom are huge pullouts.  We were able to get rid of her old toy box, a huge basket of toys that used to live in the dining room and another basket of toys living in the office, plus some stuff from her closet.  All that and only 2 of the drawers are filled.  They are on rollers so it's super easy for her to pull them out and get what she wants to play with.  The third drawer is empty at the moment, I love having extra space.  Not only is it filled with storage, but the entire bottom unit pulls out to provide space for another mattress, a trundle of sorts.  I am thinking we'll buy a roll away or blowup for when she has sleepovers or when my mom is here.  I love furniture that has the ability to multi-task, it's just smart.

Img_4913web

This is the opposite corner.  I need to replace the photo in the frame because it got wet somehow during the move and is damaged.  I'm not sure what photo to print for it yet though.  Maybe the naked chef photo?

Img_4902web

She loves this spot.  I mean really loves having a place to just sit and read.  In fact, when I put her frog in her chair, she fussed at me and said it was just for her.   You can see to the left that we moved her dresser into to her closet.  It fits perfectly and it gives her a lot more room to play.

Img_4899web

Close up of the bookshelf.  Originally I wanted to upholster the back of it.  I had all the supplies and made one upholstered piece and it was a huge headache, and then didn't fit in there right.  So I ditched that idea and stole one from Erin and used contact paper (and oh my gosh, I didn't even realize it's the exact same paper too until I went to find her old post and link it - gotta love Target!  I was being a total copycat and didn't even realize it...ha!).  Definitley a two person job, Ty helped me and I needed his extra set of hands.

Img_4907web

You can see the magnet boards in this shot.  I kind of want to repaint them, they are darker than I wanted.  I wanted a cool green and they are more army green.  It's hard to find just the right shade of spray paint though.  Maybe I should go sky blue or pink, T would love that.

Img_4927web

Close up of a few of the magnets.  Taryn loves these.  We bought pre-painted shapes from Michaels for $0.99 and I put self adhesive magnets on the back of each one.  Cute huh?  And cheap!

Img_4945web

I think my favorite part of her new room is the rug.  My mom bought it for her from JCPenny and it's just so cushy and dreamy.  The perfect spot to read, do a puzzle, or just sit and play.  Teagan and I love sitting on it while she plays, he naps on it almost daily and Jase has even fallen asleep on it a few times.  It's that comfy.

Img_4930web

Two things about the photo above, please pardon the fact that she's in her undies, but thats standard issue these days.  She's doing great potty training, I'm so proud of her, but she doesn't like getting dressed and undressed all day long, over and over.  I do put pants on her when we go out though ;)

Second, the bandage on her leg, she got bit by a spider this weekend.  We brought her to the clinic this morning and she's fine.  We don't know what kind of spider it was.  We have seen black widows outside of our house though, and we know she got bit outside, so it scared us pretty good.   Thankfully she's ok and it's not infected or bothering her that much.  You can actually see the bite on her leg below where the "bo-baid" is....she insisted on putting the Dora Bo-Baid herself and missed. Toddlers.

Thanks for looking....pics of Ty's room coming soon....hopefully we can finish it before my Mom gets here on Thursday!

Who keeps your secrets?

Teagan loves his new mobile (the cute matching one broke...humph).  I gotta admit, it is pretty cool with swirly things, things that move as it spins around and three animals (a sheep, a cow and a donkey).  He talks, babbles and coos in fascination.

Img_4818web

Over the last few days he's taken a liking to the sheep.  He's so cute, he talks to the sheep as he spins by, kicks his little feet in excitement, and then cranks his neck around waiting for the sheep to come back, ignoring the donkey and the cow.  I swear he's telling the sheep all his secrets.  He looks pretty trustworthy to me though...

Img_4828web

I've got to share this one too...there's lots wrong with it technically, but I just adore how she's snuggling up to him and holding his hand all on her own.  She's come a long way.

Happy weekend!

flashback friday

Ahhhh, this is a good one....Taryn, 7 months old.  It always makes me smile.  Cute, chubby little peanut.

I see sumthin!

So I packed up the kids and headed out to the grocery store this morning.  Only in rushing out the house, I forgot to check to be sure the sling was in the car.  I usually wear Teagan and put Taryn in the cart.  It wasn't and I couldn't fit both Teagan's carseat and Taryn in the cart, so T got to walk.  This is a special treat, usually only one daddy is crazy brave patient enough to hand out.  For some reason, walking through the grocery store is sooooo exciting and makes everything exasperated.  Mom, look at this!  Mom, lets go this way!  Mom, Mom I see sumthin!!  Ha, that "sumthin" ranges from Dora snackpacks, bananas, cupcake liners, a can of green beans, to toilet paper.

As we're making our way through the produce department, she runs up to the big stack of potatoes, stops in her tracks, points with all her might, and with huge eyes yells in her loudest outside voice....."WHOA, MOM, THATS THE BIGGEST PEANUT I EVER SAW!"  LOL!  She got quite a few laughs, a few as far away as the seafood counter and the bakery.  Funny girl.

And yeah, we eat potatoes at our house, so she knows what they are.  She usually helps me wash them.  I guess just everything is new when you actually get to walk through the grocery store!  =)  Gosh I love this age, she totally cracks me up daily.

My silly, funny girl...

Hey Locals - Special Offer

Have you guys ever heard of picture parties?  Basically, its this:  A group of friends, neighbors, relatives, co-workers (you get the idea) hire a photographer to do a session and share it.  The benefit is that you all get photographs of your children, but at a reduced rate, and everyone has a good time.  Generally, the hostess doesn't pay.  I really want to try one and am looking for a hostess with 4-5 friends willing to participate.  I'm willing to offer a seriously reduced rate in return for being my test run to see if this is something I might want to add in to my business structure.  If you are local and think this is something you might be interested in, drop me an email at lstradtner@mac.com and we can chat!

snapped it

chimped it

ran to my computer

not much going on today

I decided we needed a day in, so we're having a pj day.  I'm nursing Teagan and after all our running around the last few days, my supply is low.  So, today I'm at his disposal to try and get things right again.  During his morning nap, T and I dove into a few craft projects for her new room.  We started working on her new magnet board and then we painted these hooks.  I'm too cheap to pay for the Pottery Barn ones I wanted, mostly cause I needed 6 of them.  So instead we made these...

Img_4558web

Pardon the cruddy photo please.  We painted 3 hot pink and 3 green.  T's paint job needed a little touching up ;)  Her much loved Dora paintbrush needs replacing but she won't let me near it.  $1 pegs from Michaels, plus Memory Makers flowers and brads.  The green pegs have white flowers with pink and white polka-dot brads.  Six of these cost me about $12, not too shabby huh?  The plan is that these will be part of a photo wall above Taryn's bed.  We'll hang big photos mounted on styrene with fun colored ribbon from each one.  I'll post a photo when it's all done.  I'm trying to have at least Ty and Taryn's rooms finished up before my mom gets here in a few weeks.  That's the goal anyway.

standing guard

Img_4350web

I admit that I haven't taken many pics of Ty playing soccer this year, and I feel bad about it.  I don't have a good sports lens and the 100 mm macro just doesn't cut it.  I sure am missing that 70-300 mm I sold to Jaidean, I used to use it a lot when Ty played baseball.  I can't get close enough for any good action shots without a good zoom and the fields this year for his age group are really big, so I've struggled.  Now that the season is almost over I'm wishing I would have rented a lens.  He played really good in the last game of the regular season yesterday, I was so proud of him.  And the good news is, they won, and will move on to the championship game!  Pretty cool huh?  Maybe I should go ahead and rent a lens....any good ideas on how to convince Jason this is a great idea?  ;)

I love it when....

someone else picks up my camera and snaps a little gem for me to find when downloading...

Img_4440web

Jase took this today.  During Ty's soccer game.  One of the other players family beings their cute little pug puppy sometimes.  Well Taryn is in love.  Big time.   And the feeling is mutual.   As soon as they see one another Taryn gets giddy and assumes her position (seen above) and Addison pounces into her lap and gives her bunches of puppy kisses.  This makes T so happy and giggly.   And for a split second, it makes me want to get her a puppy.  But only a split second because then reality sinks in that I have enough dirty, unruly, whiney, unpotty trained mouths to feed living in my house.  ;)  Thank God for logical thinking because I went to mush when I opened this little surprise.

Oh who am I kidding anyway?  The child loves animals.  Just like her daddy.  And I better get ready for her to bring home every stray she finds, its just a matter of time.

April 25, 2008

I'm in debt up to my eyeballs.

Img_4271web

what day is it again?

Anyone else feel like they spend the entire week recovering from the weekend?  I sure do.  Usually by Friday I'm ready for the weekend, but not this week, it snuck up on me!  Maybe its because we have been so busy, more than the usual, crazy kind of busy.

Soccer is keeping us hopping, two nights a week plus weekends, but the end is in sight.  Ty's had a good time playing.  And did I tell y'all that Ty got straight A's except for one C on his report card?  I'm so proud of him.'

We are still knee deep in moving the kids rooms all around.  My goal is to get it done before my mom comes to visit in a few weeks, we'll see if we can make that happen.

I'll get back into flashback Friday next week...in the meantime, just a quick shot of Teagan Jude The Dude hanging out on Taryn's new big girl bed.  He's decided to ditch the George Costanza look and re-grow some hair up top.  He woke up one morning last week with a new layer of fuzz.

Love, love, love him.

Birth Announcement

Hopefully everyone on our mailing list has received theirs by now.  I had actually designed a very different, and difficult to have printed correctly, birth announcement, for Teagan.  It was an intricate 5x5 tri-fold design with a layout of multiple photos of all the kids, some of just Teagan and then with Jase and I.  After several attempts to get it right with the lab without success, I ended up throwing in the towel in the name of just getting it done.   I came across some really cute templates on Debbie's blog and followed the link to Uniquely You Designs. She has some really cute stuff!   Jase and I then couldn't agree on which photos to use, but I decided to just let him pick, again, in the name of just getting it done!  And his funny little face makes me smile.  Hey, I'm just rather impressed that baby #3 even has announcements!  So, go me!  LOL!

You can click on it to see it bigger =)

Announce_web

I had it printed as a flat card, on the front and back, 5x7 on pearl, UV coated paper.

Seaworld

Our goal was to arrive in San Antonio at 9 am when the park opened, but in true "parents of a newborn" fashion, we had some trouble getting out of the house and didn't get there until 2 pm.  HA!  But even with our late and chaotic start, we got there and had a blast.  We only ventured into about 1/2 of the park, I'm so excited we bought season tickets, we'll be going back lots!

A couple of memories stand out the most...

Taryn loved her purple bracelet that let everyone manning the rides know how tall she was.  It was purple and very cool.  She was just tall enough to go on the rides a level above the baby rides.

Standing in line equates to nail biting.  And rollercoaster riding is very serious business.  After she went on it once, she insisted she go again and "ride in the front"!  Daredevil in the making!  She would have been perfectly happy going around and around all day long.

Teagan wasn't a huge fan of Seaworld.  He's normally a great little traveler but the Shamu show was too loud and all he wanted to do was nurse all day long, which was difficult.  He was hot, sticky and just not a happy little camper.

Ty was psyched about getting soaked by Shamu, he was the first one up against the wall with the trainers.  Taryn loved being close to the big fish, wanted to swim with them and catch them with her "fishinpole".  But she freaked when she got soaked, the water was COLD.  Ty was thrilled.  I consider myself lucky that I got to sit out of the splash and soak zones with the baby :)

When Ty and Jase went on the Steel Eel, they both screamed like little girls.  It was fabulous.

Ty managed to dodge the camera a lot, but you'll notice the few times I did catch him, he was talking to girls.  Humph.  That's all I have to say about that.

Seriously, Ty did so good with Taryn, taking her on rides, playing in the water with her and just being overly patient in having to deal with a toddler and nursing a newborn, mom.  He's being rewarded for being such a great big brother by getting to go back really soon with just his Dad to do all the big kid, fun stuff without little kiddos or mom!

A few favorites....but you can see more by going to my website, click on "online proofing" and put in "seaworld" as the password.  Nothing fancy, just a few family snapshots.

just a quick one

Just a quick post this morning.  We are   d   r   a   g   g   i   n   g   this morning after a very long, but fun trip to SeaWorld in San Antonio yesterday.  It was 11 pm before we got home and we are so tired today!  The kids had a blast and the best part is we bought season passes so we'll be going back all summer long!  I took a ton of pics too but they are all still sitting on the card, in the camera.

Here are a few more from my shoot on Saturday with Beth and her husband....I'm still sorting through them but have so many favorites already....I love that even though you can't see their faces, you can still see they are smiling and their affection for one another.

blog maintenance

We're doing a little house cleaning around here tonight, the blog may look funny, act funny or you might not be able to see anything.  Hopefully things go smoothly and we're up and running again soon!

Important to note:  The link to this blog has changed.  The previous address referenced Giggles-n-Grins Photography.  With our move to Texas, we decided to change the name of the business as well, to Life in Motion Photography.  I didn't want to give up over a year of blogging when I gave up the GnG name, so Jase did a few things to make it work through domain mapping.  Basically what this means is that I get to keep my blog the same but with the new business name.  So if you have me bookmarked or linked as gigglesngrinsphoto.typepad.com please change it to http://blog.lifeinmotionphotography.com/.

Also, if you have me linked from your blog, first, thanks, that rocks!  I'd like to ask that you link to "Life in Motion" or "Lyndsay Stradtner" as another photographer is using the Giggles-n-Grins Photography name and purchasing the website, I don't want there to be any confusion.  Sorry to be such a pain!!

April 17, 2008

Thank you again to everyone who entered.  Please check back as I will have at least one, maybe two more contests before the new business opens on June 1st.  Aren't giveaways fun?!?!
